When is the best time to take admission tests in preparation for Summer 2011 accelerated BSN programs? When is the best time to apply for the schools? (not nursing but the actual school before applying to their nursing program)
I -just- decided to go into nursing last week. Thankfully a lot of pre-reqs are covered from my current major! I would really appreciate any help and guidance.
Thank you very much!

Snarky answer: when they tell you to.
Possibly more helpful answer: It depends, mostly on when the deadlines are and when you're ready to take the various exams. Contact the schools you're looking at (*gasp* amazing concept, I know!) and find out how long it usually takes for them to receive scores from the testing company. Like any program, try to give yourself a month or so of cushion between when you plan on submitting everything and when the actual due date is for applications - that way if a reference flakes on you or the registrar at a school you attended is slow in sending transcripts you're still going to have enough time to track down the problem and get your application in on time.
Also - don't just limit yourself to ABSN programs. There are master's-entry programs out there as well that either spit you out with an APN cert or with your RN and a bunch of the APN coursework already done. Graduate programs make you eligible for GradPLUS loans through the Federal government as well - though that might be less of a concern as of this evening, now that the reconciliation bill that includes provisions kicking the banks out of the student loan business is heading to the President's desk.
