When did you start clinicals?

I'm just wondering when the majority of you started clinicals.

Please let me know if you are in the ADN or BSN program, and how long did it take before you started your clinicals after you started your "nurse training" courses. Obviously those without any medical training at all need to learn something. :)

For example, those of you getting (or have) an ADN, did you start clinicals the 1st week, 1st month, 6 weeks after, etc. Did you start the first week & just shadow?

BTW, I am going into the ADN program (hopefully start Jan'06).

Thanks! :)

I start my ADN program tomorrow. We will start clinicals in 3 weeks at a nursing home affiliated with the hospital.

We had to take a VERY basic CNA-type class (vitals, handwashing, gloves/masks/gowns, moving patients.)

Classes start tomorrow. We have Nursing Process I & II this semester for 8 weeks each. I'm not sure, because we haven't had an orientation, but I think we are in the lab for the first 8 weeks.

I've heard horror stories about bed making....anyone have any problems with that? Are schools really picky about how the sheets are tucked? lol

Specializes in med/surg, ortho/neuro, ambulatory surg.

My school requires CNA as a prereq so we have our first clinical the first day of school from 7-7!!! OMG! I start on the 29th and this is an ADN program in texas ;)

Ha! Find me a hospital or LTC that doesn't use fitted stretchy jersey sheets. (OK, OK I'm sure there are some out there, but my point ...) Yet they still want you to learn mitred corners ... just in case ... of ... sheet emergency. Still, I don't think anyone bounces quarters anymore. :)

Now you can rest assured that you have time to...panic about something else! It's all about panicking, but isn't it a fun, excited, panicky feeling. I remember the first night before clinicals. Five years as a CNA, I knew all we'd be doing would be CNA skills and yet I was nauseous! But it was a "good" kind of nausea. (yes, I know that's weird)
