When do you send out announcements?

I'm graduating in mid-May :w00t:and have ordered announcements to send out. They arrived today and I am wondering how far in advance I should send them out. Any guidelines or etiquette rules you know of about this?

well...for weddings it is about 6 weeks, so I would be in that range. I'd do it 4 to 6 weeks prior unless I knew there were a lot of people from out of town I'd like to come. Just my 2 cents!

That's kind of what I was thinking too, but my husband thought I should send them out within a week or two. I don't expect anyone to come in from out of state with one possible exception - I have tried to make it explicitly clear to all my family members that while they are absolutely welcome to come, if they want to, they are under no obligation whatsoever to attend my graduation. But, I'm proud of what I'm about to finish and I wanted to announce it anyway :D.

I would say 1 month would be sufficient, for a wedding you need to know how many people you are feeding or booking hotels for, if you aren't doing that for graduation you just need enough notice to save seats!;)

BTW Congartulations!!!!

I got an information sheet with my announcements and it said to send them out anywhere between 2 weeks before to 2 weeks after. I am sending announcements to the people who are coming 4 weeks before and 1 week before to people who are not coming.
