I'm sure it has happened to some of the agency nurses here.
What do you do if the regular staff goofs off (socializing, flirting, sexual acting out, facebook, leaving for extended breaks, etc.) and leaves the agency person to do all of the work?
Now I know why they needed agency staff - to cover for the freaky regular people who work there. Never again!

Just be sure to do whatever was assigned to you and cover your legal butt!!!! As an agency supervisor I remind my nurses that they are only as good as their documentation and we ALL remember if it wasn't written it wasn't done! Just make sure that you did the work too or you will have to deal with ME! make sure the assignment is written out with your cases specifically labeled so you cant be blamed for anyone else's errors. that includes break assignment coverages too! This is not an unreasonable request and if you ask for it in a polite manner usually it's no problem. make sure it is done before 1 hr into the shift so "Switches" can't suddenly occur!!! People skills are particularly valuable to we transient nurses so remember to breathe then ask for something so it doesn't come out of your mouth with a sense of anger or frustration. Just take care of your assignment the way you would want your mother to be treated and you should be ok!

I know how you feel. It happened to me. Other patients (not my assigned pts) asking me for this and that just because I happened to be nearby taking care of my own patients, Sometimes I'd do it, but if I am not able to because am too busy myself then I let the Charge Nurse know pt needs his/her nurse. I am still going to that facility. But if I ever feel that they are taking unfair advantage of me again, I'd stop going.
