When pushy CNAs show how little they know

Published

This is sort of funny. It's about one of my favorite ER techs, but she annoys the heck out of me by being pushy and bossy at times. I had a nose bleeder, an old man, history of nose bleeds since childhood, now made worse by now being on Coumadin. A&O, we started the whole deal that we do, with him in charge since he was very familiar with his nose bleeds and likes to be in charge. It wasn't a really bad one.

Then he says " I feel like I'm going to pass out like I did last time", he briefly bradyed down to the 40s, probably a vagal response, right? I quickly pop in an IV and notify the Doc. This tech, always wanting to be prepared says "Do you want the rapid infuser?" LOL.

I'm thinking, that's the most idiotic suggestion I've heard in a long time. But I hate to put people down, so I tell her, no, he probably just vagaled. He was fine with a position change, he didn't even need a rhino rocket this time.

:roflmao:

This is strange. OP vents a little about CNA, gets attacked by mob of angry strangers for being too cruel about CNA... Who's attacking who?

You sound like an insecure RN, Emergent. I also seriously doubt you have 21 years of experience. The old Iron Horse nurses are able to hold their own with strong personalities and actually admire initiative in their CNA's/PCTs. Careful about putting the "little CNA" down too much. They spend the most time bedside with patients and often have their ear and heart. If you're nice, she might just save your ass someday, honey.

Also, who refers to their patient as a "nose bleeder?" Seriously.

I would be mindful of where you stand right now. The OP is no newbie here, you on the other hand, this is your first post. Not knocking your experience but it isn't the best start by being new to a site and being so condescending. AFWIW, I'm pretty sure that, yes, the OP has 21 years of experience.

Specializes in Oncology.

I'd kill to work with techs that motivated and involved!
