When to job hunt?

Published

Hi everyone,

I am going to be graduating in May of 09 :nurse:. I have wanted to pursue NICU nursing since I was 12. I just have no idea when I should start applying for jobs. I am graduating in the Philadelphia area. If you could please advise me on when to begin applying. Thank you

I think the sooner the better. Start emailing mgrs or recruiters about internships and GN programs now and get a feel of what's out there.

When I was graduating in May I interviewed for my NICU position on my Christmas break. I had my job lined up in January. A lot of hospitals do early recruitment for their new grads! And the early bird sometimes gets the worm...

Start looking around now if you want...have your cover letter and resume ready, research hospitals, see if they have new grad programs, recruitment brunch or visiting days, or shadow days!

be very proactive about it!

I started my job in February after a December graduation. But I had my job lined up in October!

Depends on the hospital...I think I applied too early and got lost in the crowd at one hospital. I graduated in December and both of my interviews weren't until late Oct/early Nov. for a January start.
