Hi guys!
So I've been thinking about doing camp nursing for a while and since I'm in grad school now I'll have this summer off and would love the chance to work with kids, be in a camp setting again (experience as a camper, CIT, and counselor although that was about 10 years ago!), and earning a little extra cash would be great too!
Any tips on when I should start looking/applying? I've been searching a few websites, but it doesn't seem like I'm finding a lot of positions listed. I didn't know if it was too early or too late in the year... :/
When are positions usually posted? When should I plan to apply?
Thanks! :)

In my experience, camps start posting positions in a couple months. This is not to say that there won't be camps out there with postings now. I would keep looking occasionally now, but really start looking after the first of the year.
That being said, if you've found a camp that you really think you'd like to work at, you can always send them an email or give them a call and let them know you're interested in working for them as a nurse and were wondering when they would begin posting positions for the upcoming summer.

The summer of 2012 will be my 3rd summer as a camp nurse in Vermont. My first year I started looking for a job in the beginning of January. I know you can find positions right now. The camp I work at has started to recruit last years employees already. Find a camp that interests you in an area you would like to work and just give them a call. It isn't always easy finding nurses for camp because a large number of nurses can't just take the summer off from their regular job. Go for it!! I love being a camp nurse.
