How long after you graduate from nursing school can you take the NCLEX?
You do have to apply, correct? Is there a waiting period?
Of course I know that this is a difficult and important test and much study and preparation is involved. But for somone who has been preparing all along is as soon after graduation possible?

You have to apply to a state Board of Nursing and have your educational credentials accpeted by them. You need ot pay a fee of $200 to Pearson-Vue for the exam. Once your state has notified them that you meet all of the requirements, they will issue you the ATT letter. You have only 90 days to take the exam once you receive the ATT...........if not done by then, you lose your money.
It will depend on how soon that your school sends in your final transcripts, and how soon that you receive your ATT letter.

Thank you for the information.
Another question.
Here is the scenario. You apply to the Board of Nursing in one state, have your credentials accepted, pay the 200$ testing fee, and receive the ATT and then you move. Are you allowed to take the exam in your new state? Is the exam taken at a testing center (i.e. Prometrics, Sylvan testing centers?)

First, you would take the exam for which ever state that you have your ATT for. NCLEX is a national exam, you could go on vacation and take it wherever. Site doesn't matter.
The exam is taken at Pearson-Vue, that is why you pay your money to them.
That is the testing center that has the contract for the NCLEX testing throughout the world.

Please go to the International forum and look at the stickies at the top of the page. It will give you all of the answers that you need. I highly recommend that you go with NY for initial licensure............see reasons why in those readings.
