When can I begin using the BSN credential?

Hi all,

I graduated recently from an RN to BSN program. Obviously, I didn't have to take boards again (thank goodness), but I'm unclear as to when I can begin using "BSN" in my name. Since I graduated is it appropriate to start using it? I can't find anything online that gives guidance. Also, what is the appropriate listing for credentials? I also have a CDN certification. Any opinions on what order they should be listed?

Thanks ?

Immediately. The diploma is in hand, correct?

Graduation is complete, I passed all classes, diploma is in the mail.

Thanks for the order!

Specializes in Psychiatric and emergency nursing.

According to the ANCC, if you're really anal about displaying your credentials correctly, education precedes license, and certifications come at the end. Your primary certifications (those you use most often) come before those that are just kinda hanging out. As an example, I used to work in an emergency room and obtained my CEN certification, but I am now primarily a psychiatric nurse practitioner. So if I were to write all my credentials out, it would be:

ThePsychWhisperer, DNP (C), MSN, APRN, PMHNP-BC, CEN

Agree with @Oldmahubbard about your BSN though. You graduated, you earned it. Display it with pride!

Specializes in Psych, Corrections, Med-Surg, Ambulatory.

Agree with the others. If you've got anything in your hand that states "diploma conferred" or "requirements met" or anything with a ring of finality, the credential is yours to display. Congratulations!
