What's The Deal With A 4.0 Gpa?

HELLO ALL!

WONDERING, WHAT's DEAL WITH A 4.0 GPA?

I HAVE WORKED REALLY HARD AT TRYING TO GET INTO NURSING SCHOOL.

NURSING IS MY LIFE!!! I LIVE, BREATHE, EAT, AND SLEEP NURSING, THE SKILL OF NURSING RUNS IN MY FAMILY.

I HAVE TREID AT TWU 3 TIMES AND AT FIRST THEY SAID MY GPA WASNT GOOD ENOUGH -AT THAT TIME IT WAS A 3.2, THEN I RETOOK CLASSES AND GOT IT TO A -3.5, AND THAT WASN'T GOOD ENOUGH, NOW I HAVE A 3.8 AND THEY STILL DIDN'T ACCEPT ME, I WAS TOLD THAT I WOULD BE PLACE ON A WAITING LIST. THEIR REASON BEING IS BECAUSE I DIDN'T HAVE A 4.O GPA.:crying2:

I ALSO APPLIED TO UT AND WAS TOLD THEY DID NOT BASE ACCEPTANCE ON GPA-- WELL I WENT FOR THE INTERVIEW AND THOUGHT EVERYTHING WENT WELL, BUT TO MY SUPRISE I RECEIVED A LETTER FROM THEM OVER THE WEEKEND SAYING, "WE'RE SORRY WE CAN NOT ACCOMODATE YOU AT THIS TIME".....:angryfire

JUST WONDERING WHAT EXACTLY IS IT?

(NOT TRYING TO KNOCK ANYBODY HERE ON GPA, BUT DON'T THEY KNOW THE VERY BEST NURSES, AREN'T ALWAYS THE ONES WITH A 4.0 GPA)

I AM NOT GIVING UP. I AM RE-APPLYING, I AM AT THIS TIME RETAKING A FEW CLASSES I MADE A -C- IN ORDER TO BOOST THE GPA UP HIGHER,

BUT IS IT RIGHT OR WRONG TO DENIE SOMEONE A PERFECT OPPORTUNITY JUST BECAUSE THEY ARE NOT PERFECT? (4.0)

ANY THOUGHTS, SUGGESTIONS, OTHER SCHOOLS TO TRY, WOULD SURELY BE APPRECIATED....

OH YEAH!!! BY THE WAY I HAVE CHECKED OUT THIS SITE FOR AWHILE AND FINALLY REGISTERED, SO I AM A NEW MEMBER. :)

Frankly, I think the whole process of getting into nursing school is enough to make you SHOUT. It is hard, but there is a logic to giving the limited spaces available to those most likely to complete the program. Here in WV, the ADN program I'm in is harder to get into than the University's BSN program, since a lot of us non-traditionals can't or don't want to do 4 years.

If I were a Director of Admissions, I believe I would give points for persistence. When you do start a program, you'll need all the tenacity you can muster. I used to look at some of the nurses in my hospital and think, "If she can do it, I surely can." Now I think, "If she made it through nursing school, she must have something going for her." I definitely don't mean to scare you off, because it is worth it (Please, Lord, let it be worth it!) but getting in isn't the hardest part. This past semester has been brutal, but parts have also been fun, and overall it's good for the soul. Good luck and God bless.

(Yes, it has occurred to me that I won't really get to the hard part until I'm out of school and on the floor. Aaaargh! What was I thinking? I must have been drunk or something. I say again, Aaaaargh!)

Thanks for the advice on this subject.

does anyone know of any good nursing schools in Georgia?

Just a thought.

I think what you are running into is that there are only so many slots and so they go on the GPA.

I am one of the 4.99+ people (103% GPA). However, I dont believe that the GPA is the most important thing.

Even with my grades I have run into a problem...my ACT is too low!! And their are some schools that care more about your ACT than they care about a 103% GPA.

You might be suprised however that some of the highest ranking schools (John Hopkins for example) care more about your ethics than a stupid standardized test. They care more about what volunteer work you have done and your leadership capabilities.

You can tell a great deal about a school by their application. Do they want the opinion of your teachers? Do they ask what your ethics are? Do they want references?? Or do they just care about the ACT and/or your GPA?

There are schools out there who look at the whole person. You may need to look at private schools.

And a 3.8 is more than acceptable

Hi! how is it possible to have 4.99+/103% GPA?? If someone could explain that to me, it would be greatly appreciated! I live up in Canada and here no such thing exists..that i've heard... Thanks!

Are you saying that you had to apply to nursing school twice? (me being naive and still doing prereqs)

I have wondered if that is something people have to do....and if you have to do that do they (ouch) make you pay those application fees again...

Yes! you have to pay the app. fees all over again, they don't go away.

some schools will keep you on file if you say your going to reapply the next term, ut-houston does, but twu- in houston does not you have to resubmit everything...

Its a good thing I didn't read posts like this prior to applying to nursing schools, I would have stressed way out. I have a respectable GPA, I applied, stayed in close contact (annoyed the hell out of) the admissions aoffice, and i think they were afraid they would have to deal with me for another year if I didn't get in :)

Yes. It is possible. If you make all 100%'s and do extra credits.

I assure you Magna cum laude is always above 100%

The problem is that the computers really cannot understand anything above 100%. I guess it is figured by hand. But yes it is possible.

I will do anything just about for an extra point or 2!

I used to date a guy who was Magna cum laude in high school, college, and for his masters. He was much higher than 103%. Now he never could sleep because he was thinking all the time...but talk about brilliant. If he was even on the Bell Curve I would be surprised.
