Whats the process?

Hi, I'm currently a nursing student. Upon graduation I would like to practice as an RN outside the US. Are there any test other than the NCLX that I will have to take? Other liscences to get? Right now I live in Wisconsin. What is the process to practice outside the country you live in?

You will have to do some research to determine which countries need nurses and will allow you in on a work visa. Some countries will not accept nursing education from the US and will require you to have education in that country. Some only require you to take the board exam in their country. I have nursing friends who have been able to get work visa's for Australia but not for the UK. I had one friend who was able to get a work visa for the American Hospital in Paris but this was a long time ago. Every country is different. Sometimes you have to have a hospital agree to hire you before you can get a work permit.

If you want to work for an organization such as Doctors without Borders or Peace Corps contact those agencies and they can give you the specifics of how to get involved. Also you might try certain religious organizations. They frequently use nurses as part of their missionary work into other third world countries.

All depends on the country and what their requirements are for both nurse registration and work permit/visa
