Mar 28, 201313 yr Is risk for impaired swallowing the same as risk for aspiration?? Doing my care plan and it seems like they're basica
Mar 28, 201313 yr Experts The interventions may be similar but the diagnoses are two different things.A patient that has one of those diagnoses may not necessarily have the other although it is common.Tube fed patients can be at risk for aspiration. There is no swallowing involved but rather of residual feed.People with swallowing impairment may not be at the same high risk for aspiration.
Mar 28, 201313 yr I wouldnt see why u couldn't use both as long as you have data. Aspiration before swallowing when prioritizing I think
Mar 28, 201313 yr Experts The interventions for risk of aspiration could be different depending on the situation.A patient getting a tube feed would be at risk for aspiration but the interventions would not be the same for at risk for impaired swallowing so the care plan would not be identical for both.
