What's the average waiting time?

U.S.A. Florida

Hey guys,

I was curious to know how long it took everyone else to get into a nursing program. I just applied to the spring program for USF, but I didn't get in, instead I am an alternate kinda far down on the list. I was missing 2 prereq's for their program but decided to try anyways. I also applied to HCC, but they screwed up my transcripts and said I was missing SYG 2000 when in fact I am NOT. I am getting that straightened out but USF is my first choice. I was just wondering what is the average wait time once you apply to getting in a program.

Thanks a bunch,

Tesia

Hi Tesia

I have applied to HCC, SPC and USF. SPC last year placed me on a waiting list for 2 years (as of Aug '05), but they called me in for this Fall because they move forward people with high program GPA (mine is 3.76). HCC is a different story, they screwed up my transcripts too, I got into the program through appeal. This Fall group, as they said on orientation, was the group with the highest GPA ever (cut off was 3.6).

As to USF, I applied for this Fall (missing many prereqs though - Micro and Lab, Nutrition and Chemistry with Lab) and didn't get in, reapplied for the Spring and was accepted - just got my letter this week. It's very flattering for me, but probably I will turn them down as I don't think I can afford to stay in school for another 3 years. For some reason they skip Summer semester on a second year, which make program 6 months longer, and my finances are pretty tight right now. I don't know.

Good luck to you! Kick HCC hard, they are very slow and unresponsive (I don't want to say more):)

Hey Tesia,

I wish you only the best and hope things work out for you at USF. I'm not sure that there is a standard average waiting time. If the program has a very competative application process then they generally wait until after the deadline to send out decisions. Otherwise, decisions can take as little as one month.

I applied to one school in mid-January and got a decision in mid-February. That school didn't have a deadline and didn't require essays or recommendations.

I applied to three competative schools in late-January, all of which required essays, recomendations and had deadlines. One had a January 31st deadline and I received my decision, along with everyone else, in mid April. I was an alternate. In late late May I was notified via telephone of my acceptance and received a letter in June.

The other two had March 1st deadlines. I received an acceptance decision in early-March from the first. The other informed me that I was an alternate in mid-March. Later, I received a letter telling me that I was rejected as an alternate in early June.

Good luck. I hope this helped.

Well your situation sounds alot like mine. I guess I will just keep my fingers crossed that I get in for next fall , and if I still don't get in I will surely cry.

As for HCC if this appeal that I am doing goes thru and they accept me I am probably going to turn them down. I've had nothing but problems with them. And as for your situation, have you looked into those nursing scholarships where they also pay you a monthly stipend? You first have to be accepted into a program and then you can apply. In case this can help you the website is http://bhpr.hrsa.gov/nursing/scholarship

Thanks for the info!
