What's the average salary for an experienced nurse in Houston?

Published

What is the average salary at the various hospital systems? I want to know if what I could potentially earn in the future is worth continuing to live in busy and traffic-ridden Houston.

Hi Sun2525,

I moved to Houston a couple of months ago and I work for one of the major health care systems in Houston. I moved from Canada but from what I gather experienced RNs can make between 34-50USD/hr (but thats variable depending on your years of experience and the hospital you are working at).

Cheers!

Laurie

Who makes $50/hr? Maybe PRN, but not regular full time floor nurse unless you have a lot of experience.

How much experience do you have? Even $34/hr is high for someone with less than 5 yrs experience.

Maybe other places I have not looked at pay more, but $30-40/hr base pay is more realistic (not counting shift diff and such. I have heard of a few places paying good night/weekend and location diff pay).

Specializes in Trauma, Surgical, Burn.

$30-40 sounds about right especially if you work around The Medical Center but decreases the further you are from TMC.

I have friends who work at TMC that make at least $30/hr with at least 1 year experience. I also have another friend who works in the woodlands and they make around $27-28 with 1-2 years of experience

Hello I am a Perioperative RN with 2 yrs experience in the OR and 8 yrs overall RN experience. I currently work in CA. and make incredible money. I am considering a move to Houston. Just wondering what the going salary is for an RN in the OR?
