After applying to 3 RN programs, it seems that as of now, I've been passed up again
I really don't know what to do. I'm on the waitlist for the Rad Tech program at my current college, and it does seem like i will be admitted in the Fall, but that was not my plan. I guess you could say it was my back up. Talk about the worst year I've ever had, 2009 was it. Can't wait for it to be over. So do I:
1. Continue to apply to other schools and see what happens for their Fall semesters?
2. Should I perhaps do some volunteering and guarantee myself a spot in the Rad Tech program I applied to (I can get bumped up on the list if i volunteer!)
3. Or should i consider a different profession consider how competitive this field is.
Even denial is the same, "We had 600 applicants, we only accept 60, there are a lot of 4.0's, etc......"
Awlways the same, hard to stay positive after a year and a half of denial from school and life!!!

Hey, there! Sorry to hear how crappy things have been for you as of late. Have you thought about possibly getting your lpn from a local college 1st? You could most likely get in that program rather easily, even more so if it is a private school. Private schools are more expensive, however. It should take about a year to complete. Then you can get your RN either adn or bsn from an online college. That is exactly what I will doing! I already have a BA in psychology from years ago...but have since had a change of heart as to what my true calling is. Sadly, I was a bit too much of a :beercuphe party girl in my youth so I didn't have a great gpa which means I can't get straight into an rn program.

What state are you in? Have you tried to apply to another state? Is that something that you would consider?
How are your grades? Maybe if you have any C's you could repeat and try to do better to have a better shot.
Its hard to give advice to someone esp. not knowing where you are or how your grades are.

In all my pre-reqs (i.e. science courses and english) I have B's and A's. I'm currently in Southern California. I've thought about going out of state and i would definitely consider it but it's just the cost that holds me back. Seems like it will be very expensive. I guess what better reason to put myself in debt then college and my future right.
As for my GPS, it is right below a 3.0, Not to bad consider the minimum is 2.5 for most CC RN programs.

At the CC I'm trying to get to in a Great Lakes state, most applicants have above a 3.5 at least in their nursing prereqs. 2.5 is the minimum required to apply. Half of my anatomy class was people retaking it so they can get a 4.0 GPA. I don't know what it's like in Cali, but here it seems that most places are upping their minimum GPA to apply.

Don't be fooled by that 2.5. It's the minimum but for most programs especially community college that is not the case. The community colleges around me say that a 2.75 is the minimum and yet for the fall they didn't let in anyone under a 3.7. The 2.5 means that if you're GPA is lower than that, they won't even look at your application..
Anyway though, how long is the Rad tech program going to take? If it's only a year or something like that and you have time then I say maybe you should go do that and then go back and apply for more nursing programs when you're done, that way at least you have something while you're waiting
Rad Tech is 22-24 months. I think that might be the route I'm going to have to take. I'm tired of waiting and I yearn to start working on the future that i want. I guess I do need to bump up my GPA.

I didn't get in my first try, so afterwards, I got my CNA license over the summer and started volunteering in Hospice. My second try, I got in! My first try i had a 3.7 GPA and it had dropped to 3.6 for my second try. So even though my GPA dropped a little, I still got in because of my healthcare experience. If I were you, I'd look into any type of healthcare experience that you can put on your application. Even if another student has a slightly higher GPA than you, you may be preferred because healthcare experience shows commitment to the healthcare field. Goodluck and God Bless!
I reread your original post. I find this troubling: "denial from school and life"
Not to make a mountain out of a molehill here, but are you okay? "Denial from life"? It sounds like you've had a rough year. I glanced at your previous posts, and I didn't see you mention other aspects of your life. You've got to feel awful that you've been putting so much hope in these programs to accept you, and then you get the disappointing news. But is something more going on?
You don't have to disclose anything here. This is just a forum of strangers. But do you have someone to talk to about everything? A friend or counselor?
re-reading I think the words made it more extreme then it was. It's just overwhelming to work hard for something, and constantly get rejected. It has been a horrible year for me and I'm looking forward to the new one. I've gotten a leg kicked from underneath me but I plan one getting it back.
For the past year (2years really) I've concentrated on school and my future, and as I look back when i started, I'm really in the same place. It's just disappointing.
I appreciate your concern but I think my words were more extreme then they had to be! I don't plan on giving up, I just might have to change me path since it's taking soooooo long!!
Ok, I'm sorry for overreacting. I'm glad you're ok. Don't give up though. It is next to impossible it seems to get into an RN program right now. I'll be applying next year, but I'm trying to prepare myself for all the rejection letters I'll probably get! If you don't give up, I'm sure you'll get in somewhere.
