What do you wear to work

Published

I have been a school; nurse for 8 years and I have always worn scrubs to work. Many of my co-workers wear street clothes with a lab coat. I'm thinking of switching- I wanted to take a poll of my fellow school nurses to ask you what you wear to work?

Hilundlass,

I've tried wearing both and prefer street clothes with a lab vest (sleeveless lab coat) or lab coat. I think the younger ones are not as afraid of you.

I do try to always wear "running" shoes though just in case I have to make a mad dash across campus.

I think it's great that you have a choice in what to wear. I did home health for a long time too and feel that I can work while wearing just about anything if the occasion arises, lol!

In a school of 1700 students, not all students know who you are, so if you are looking for the nurse they should look like a nurse. I have and always will wear scrubs.

I wear "nice" casual clothes. Pants that are khakis or cords and polo shirts with collars and cardiagans or cordoroy "big shirts" over a nice t-shirt. And in hot weather I wear crops. In the hot weather I wear sandals (not flip-flops or crocs) and when it is cold I wear sneakers. I don't wear skirts so I'm ready to get down on the ground if need be for a child hurt on the playground. I don't worry very much about getting soiled. I just wash the clothes every time I wear them and start fresh each day. There have been occasions where I've had to ask my husband (he is at home retired) to bring me a change of clothes if someone threw up all over me. But as an experienced mom of 4, that doesn't really bother me much. And I wear a name tag on a lanyard every day. That is a requirement for all school staff here.
