I am currently waiting to get into a nursing program. In the interim, and while going to school, what can I do to make myself more appealing to potential hiring managers? I am hoping to get a job at a hospital after graduation. My sister is a NICU nurse and loves it. Should I be volunteering at a hospital? Doing any special certification? Working at a hospital? Any skill sets to work on?
Thanks!

Would you consider working at the same hospital as your sister? If so, ask her to network you. Begin making contacts and maintaining those contacts. Those individuals could also give advice of the best way to get a foot into the door.
Good luck!

Yes, definitely take advantage of volunteer opportunities at your local hospitals (any one you'd consider working for)
I volunteered at a hospital, that eventually turned into a Tech/PCA job for while I was in school, and then an RN job after graduation.
My classmates who made connections with hospitals (volunteering or working) prior to graduation also had a much easier time finding a job after graduation! Good luck!
Thanks guys! My sister works nights and I work full time days so it is hard for me to network there. Who do I contact at the hospitals about volunteering?

Most major hospitals have a Volunteer department that will coordinate everything for you. Just call the main number to the hospital and ask for the volunteer department. You should just have to fill out a form and maybe meet with someone, but other than that they'll place you wherever you fit and try to get you in your desired area. :) Good luck!
Thank you so much for the help! I know it's a tough job market so I am just trying to do anything/everything I can
