Hi,
Ok here's the deal...I do NOT drive a car at all and I don't plan on ever getting my driver's license (for various reasons)
That being said, what are some good cities in the US where you do not need a car to live or work as a nurse? I am single and am going to be graduating soon. I am looking into moving to the states from Canada sometime after I graduate if it all works out.
I am not picky about much really....
I don't care what state I live in really that much (higher paying salaried states are a bonus...) and somewhere relatively warm would be nice. I don't like snow that much but I can live with it if I have to.
I guess somewhere with a good subway or bus system would be essential. I dont mind walking too.
I already know about NYC and Chicago is apparently a good place to live if you dont have a car...can anyone recommend any other places to live? What about Seattle? I heard that was nice!
I am open to any suggestions/recommendations
Thanks so much!
Chicago has some flaws with its subway system, but if you live in downtown and get a condo (cheaper than a house) NYC i wouldn't do because Cost of living is crazy, Boston is a really great place if you dont have a car, atlanta, isn't bad either. LA = NO!!! bad crime rate, crazy taxes, bad economy!!!! Miami isn't bad, pretty decent transport system. But I would say chicago or boston

Some smaller and mid-size towns may be ideal too. I'd highly recommend La Crosse, WI (my hometown) as one of them. La Crosse's bus system is fairly comprehensive--and though it does not run from approx 11:00 PM to 5:30 AM, the facts are you probably won't need it to do so! La Crosse also has reliable, secure and inexpensive taxi service--and it's a very "walkable" city. There are well-kept sidewalks everywhere throughout the city. (and heavens do I miss them, living in Augusta, GA now--where there are hardly any sidewalks, and you have to have a car virtually super-glued to your fanny to do anything!) The streets in La Crosse are also great for biking. It's a safe city too. La Crosse is also home to two major medical centers, and three colleges--and not that far from the Canadian border either!
