Please forgive me if this is covered frequently! I tried searching but couldn't find much!
I am getting ready to start my final year in the MSN Educator program (yay!!) and I'm trying to plan out life after school. My husband is a Navel Nurse Officer & we should be getting orders for San Diego soon. Our plan has been that I would finish school & then begin looking for a FT teaching job at one of the BSN or ADN programs, but now that we are 3 months pregnant we are reevaluating plans! I am considering looking for a PT teaching job instead of FT so the baby wouldn't have to go to daycare but I honestly don't know what type of hours/days instructors put in on a weekly basis! In my BSN program the FT instructors usually taught 2 didatic courses & also did clinical for 1 or 2 classes.......is this normal?
I know that I will be spending a LOT of time doing lesson plans & papers my first few years but I was wondering if you guys could answer these questions:
1. Are you FT or PT status?
2. How many classes/clinicals do you teach a semester?
3. How many hours/days are you actually on campus?

I was full time visiting faculty in 2006 (up til then I just taught a clinical here and there). As full time faculty, I taught a total of 12 credit hours per semester. This amounted to one didactic course and 3 clinical courses per semester. I was on campus for 4 hours a week and at the clinical site 2 days per week, for 8 hours each day. That amounts to 20 hours of on-site work per week. I put in LOTS of time at home preparing though. I was available by phone and email all the time, and spent about an hour per week answering calls and emails. I also spent about 40 hours preparing for the semester, before it started.
