I have been on this site for a bit and realize there are of course nurses who are in their specialized field. But what about the public health nurse or others who are not necessarily placed in the hospital? I'm interested to know what they're experience are like as well. If anyone is in this field please feel free to share thanks. I would love to know which specialized areas would be suitable for me once I graduate, so many choices.

There are plenty of avenues outside of the hospital for nurses. Community health is just one of them! Check out the specialties forum, but even beyond that, there are avenues to explore. Right now, I'm doing wellness clinics and home infusions, and just accepted a position at a long term care facility while I'm looking for hospital work. I've also done some camp nursing (SOO much fun!).
Is camp nurse really fun for real? What are you able to do beyond ?
I really enjoyed it. I spent some time at a muscular dystrophy camp, so we had stuff beyond the usual bumps, bruises and mosquito bites of camp. Each camper had their own counselor, who handled most of their care by the end, including breathing treatments and even cathing and trachs, but we as the nurses did a lot of this as well, we handled meds, and we got to participate in the activities the kids had. Plus, the doc that was in charge was AWESOME.
There are tons of camps over the summers, and depending on how my job search is going next year, I may try to do more of it. They always love volunteers, so it's a good resume builder if you want that after school. Many of the counselors were nursing students and med students from around the country. So cool! :)
