What do you think my chances are?

Hi, first post...

Just wondering what you all think my chances are of being accepted to get my bsn. I am a 38 year old married guy. I am at a point where I want to do something more in life. I'm currently a car salesman, and while the money is great, I dread going in every day, and there is zero job satisfaction. I have several semesters of college from right after high school, and an overall gpa of 3.0...

I've never been really strong with math and science, although in hindsight, I think that had more to do with not caring than with actual ability. I know if I don't get my degree, I'll be stuck selling cars for the rest of my life, and that alone has me motivated. Add to that the fact that I have a wife and five kids to support, and it becomes even more of an incentive to do well.

My plan is to work through the next year and get my prerequisites done, and then start a nursing program, quitting my job at that time. I've got enough savings to go two years as an unemployed student, or minimally employed student while living a barebones life for the duration of nursing school. Luckily, our cars are both paid for, and in good condition.

With that said, and assuming I can get my go u to a more respectable number, will my age be a help or a hindrance? What about school locations? We have kids, but they're all young, so relocation would be an option anywhere in Ohio. I would prefer a public school to a private one, but I want to make sure I'm competitive in a program that everyplace touts as highly selective. Nothing worse than taking all these classes, only to be told no. Getting wait listed isn't a good option, either. I'm 38 now, so the sooner I do this, the better.

Your age shouldn't be an issue. Your GPA is where you might have some problems depending on what schools you will be applying schools. I know some schools average applicant GPA is like a 3.7 in some parts of the country and others it can be lower. I have seen people get into schools with 3.0's. It's all gonna depend on the applicant pool and what GPA your potential schools usually accept.
