??? What techs can & cannot do in various states???

Published

I'd like to hear some feedback from other nurses as to what technicians can and cannot do in various states. I'm particularly interested in Florida right now as I'm considering that area for my next assignment.

Also...is the 16 patient to 1 RN a federal hemodialysis staffing ratio? Where is that stated....any web sites you know of for guidelines? Thanks for your input.

Nephrology Nursing Journal Jan-Feb 2005 Vol 32 No. 1 pages 31-37.

Complied by Fresenius Medical Care. Some new legislation pending so there may be some changes.

As for the ratios I don't think they are federal. In SC it is 10:1. Some states don't have ratios.

Good luck.

PM if you have other questions about traveling.

Three patients per nurse be she an RN or LPN. Same patient acuity, only difference is the RN's can IV push Eprex, the LPN's prepare & hang their own IV meds and if no RN is around the Eprex is administered by the LPN as a subq.

No tech's only service aides for assisting with stripping & set up assistance.

This is in outpatient dialysis and currently we are trying to get a 2:1 ratio.
