What states allow you to challenge the NCLEX-PN?

I am a student nurse & I've passed everything but my last class of the RN program (critical care). Because I failed this class by 2.5 points on my exam, I am unable to graduate & am being asked to take the LPN course & then re-enroll into the RN program after working as a full time LPN for 6 months. I feel that's far too long after I've already spent this long to get my RN! I would like to get my LPN ASAP. I can't find any solid information about it anywhere but I've heard that medics in the military & other RN students have challenged the NCLEX-PN to get their license. Any info would be appreciated. Thank you for your time!

I appreciate the update! If you live in NY like I do, have you considered working in New Jersey - being a compact state? Trying to see a work-around....

Never mind, I re-read your comment about being ineligible to sit for a compact license....

Thank you for sharing your story. I had a similar situation. I Challenged the Florida Board of nursing and passed on the first try; but I wanted to know if any other states endorsed your license or did you move to Florida?

You can always check BON requirements for licensure on their website. If it states a requirement is to have completed a practical nursing program, it is very unlikely you would be able to endorse a license via challenging NCLEX to that state.

HI!!

I also failed nursing during my last semester which has been devastating. Nevertheless, I was lucky to find and successfully challenged the LPN exam through the Florida Board of Nursing. It was actually fast. I sent the application less than a month or so and have already been approved to sit for the NCLEX PN.  I think it was approved fast mainly because I was not eligible to apply for a compact license. However, it is possible to apply for endorsement at your current state after obtaining it, which is what I will do in order to practice in my state. I have already scheduled the exam and just started studying for it. I definitely recommend going with Florida.

Don't hesitate to message me or anybody that needs extra guidance.

Good luck!! :))

Hey what’s the process of changeling PN NCLEX? I see that you have to submit some documents to your school to sign and am afraid they won’t sign it, am on my last semester of RN but afraid that I won’t pass so I might try PN NCLEX.

Myra, what state are you in if you do not mind me asking? And how can you go about seeking endorsement if your state requires that you graduate from an approved program? I challenge the board of Florida and passed my NCLEX-PN but not sure what to do now. I live in DMV area.

@Karla R if you don't mind answering was your education from RN school or lpn school

I had 2 weeks left and had to withdraw from lpn school last month but I passed all the classes required to challenge in Florida can I challenge as a lpn student or you have to be a RN student only

You have to be an RN student to challenge LPN boards.

@Myra Myra

The reason I asked is bc I had 2 weeks of lpn school left this past December and had to withdraw for personal reasons but I've taken all of the classes and passed with a B

@splewis on the Florida application where the box is that ask if you graduated from a RN program below it it say if you are in lpn program leave box blank

So that's y I think you can challenge it if you passed those classes

I'm gonna call tomorrow

@kendi bell Did you call the board of nursing? Am thinking of applying for NCLEX-PN because I failed my RN HESI exit.

AZ you have to have completed theory and clinical in geri, med/surg, OB, Peds, and psych in order to sit for LPN. My program as OB/Peds in third semester and psych in fourth with critical care so we have to take an LPN 6 week course after block 2 to sit for LPN, but the school my friend goes to has their program set up that you can just sit for LPN after completing either block 2 or block 3 (don't remember which).

Basically, there are states, but submitting your education verification from out of state would take some time. You can try calling the AZ BON (or other states) and just ask if they would allow you to challenge the PN with your current education level.

Also, have you tried to appeal the dismissal to get re admitted to fourth semester so you don't have to completely repeat everything?

H!  Do you know what school your friend went to?
