What school do you go to?

Does your school have a waiting list for the nursing program?

I have noticed a lot of people talking about taking classes such as Anatomy, Pysio, Micro ect along with nursing class...at my school those are pre-nursing, you have to have ALL your biology class done before you can even apply.

Where I'm going to school we are accepted on a first come first served basis. Our GPA has nothing to do with being admitted. There are 90 (I think they reduced it to 72 this year) slots available with 4 times as many applicants. I started in the Fall of 2003 and first had to take all of my prerequisites I needed to make up for messing up in highschool. I got put on the waiting list last year and spent the whole year taking all of the courses that are scheduled in with the nursing program like A&P, Micro, Comp & Lit, etc. I will finally be starting the Nursing program this Fall and all I have to take are the nursing classes and one Humanities elective. I am glad it worked out the way it did being wait-listed. Taking those sciences and other required courses along with the nursing classes would have been very stressful.

Good Luck to All this Fall!

I am starting at Springfield Technical Community College this fall. I applied to 7 schools, and most of them required A&P 1 and 2, and Eng 101 before applying. My school requires a Medication Calculation course too.

I have already taken all of the other required courses though, except for Literature, so I'm working on my BSN ged ed requirements while in the ADN program.

My school doesn't have a waiting list and neither do 5 of the other schools I applied too, you have to apply again if you don't get accepted. The one school (out of 7) that i didn't get into, chooses applicants by a lottery (dumb!) and they have a waiting list of like 2 or 3 years.

I go to MCC in Rochester NY. Its a two-year ADN program. There is a waiting list but I think the way it works is points--the more classes you've got under your belt towards the degree (the sciences, psychology etc) then the more points you have.

There is a waiting list, but I am not sure how long it is. The instructors first semester liked to tell us that there are 300 - 500 applicants for 99 seats each semester (they start newbies in the fall and spring semester).

They all recommend getting the other classes out of the way, and most people have at least got Anatomy and Physiology out of the way as well as the required stuff like psych 101, soc. 101 etc. Micro isn't required officially until the second clinical semester, as is Lifespan psych.

I had all the sciences, electives, health classes and pre-reqs done before even applying and I got in first shot. (I'd taken them all previously when I tried the program the first time many moons ago). I took Lifespan Psych the summer before first clinical semester.

Our school has to let in a specific amount of just-graduated from highschool students. They are the ones who have to struggle w/ all the sciences and core nursing programs. Its hard to imagine getting it done in two years. First semester there were three new high school grads in my clinical group starting out and only one when we finished.

I go to West Hills College in Lemoore, CA for now. When I start NS in January I will be at the College of Sequoias in Visalia, CA. Once you are admitted, all you do is nursing classes, all pre req's must be complete before you apply.
