Hello to all the hard working wonderful nurses out there!

i just recently applied for a job (almost new grad) and when the nsg. manager asked me if i had any questions for her i just sorta blanked out. i think maybe i asked one stupid question i cant remember. i have the opportunity to email her now. btw, its an acute inpatient psych unit.

so.........any advice on what to ask and is there anything you regret NOT asking before you accepted the job?

thanks to everyone who responds!:nuke:

I agree with shmoofins. If you walk in and the interview is 5-10 minutes and they are practically offering you the job already, RUN AS FAST AS YOU CAN!!!! Also, when you get an offer, get everything in writing. They should give you an offer letter stating pay, shifts, and weekends needed. Good luck!!

I agree, being offered a job too easily means that you are being set up for the kill. These type of units usually have a high turnover of nurses working there and they are desperate. This happened to me when I applied to this neuro unit and boy did I regret working at this place. Some other tips to ask would be:

*Can I shadow a nurse for possibly a shift to get an idea of the unit?

*Are there any unions for nurses here?

*Have you all obtained your magnet status yet?(many hospitlas work hard to get this and it usaully shows that it is a good place for nurses to work)

Good luck!
