What qualification do I need to work in an A+E dept?

Hi,

I'm a qualified Paramedic and have completed modules at level 3 (Physical Assessment and Clinical Reasoning, Principles of Emergency Care, Facilitated Learning and Assessment in Practice, and Evidence and Research in Practice) whilst working towards my BSc (HONS) Degree in Emergency Care which I hope to complete in October this year. I would like to supplement my experience (and income) by working in an A+E department but I'm unsure what I need to do to qualify in order to achieve this. Can anybody advise me or point me in the right direction to find out?

Many thanks

Gareth

What kind of job were you looking for Gareth. I'm not sure that UK EUs employ paramedics within that role (although I could be wrong)

I'd like to be in as clinical a role as possible.. I'm an experienced Paramedic with extended skills / training. I haven't got a nursing qualification although I am prepared to train / qualify as one if necessary but I don't know what is needed as a minimum.

I am really not sure what some EU's have. We don't have paramedics, we have unqualified nurses, band 2 and 3's and we have qualified nurses.

If your going to work as a nurse in EU you need to do the full nursing degree, not sure if that was what you had in mind. I think, as a paramedic you'd be bored and underutilised working as an unqualified support worker in any department. You've got too many skills that would go to waste. It may be worth getting in touch with your local department to see what they've got to offer
