What are you doing to prepare for school?

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

For those of us who are expecting to start school in the next little while, what do you expect to do to prepare? I'm starting my preparatory semester part time in September and the Nursing program full time in January. Here are a few things I've done or am thinking about:

Bought a cheap Sprague stethoscope, just to play around with...(:D my cat will not be afraid of the vet anymore!) I'll probably get a better quality one once school starts...

I'm starting the hunt for good shoes...going around to different shoe stores and seeing how they all feel...also keeping my eye out for sales.

Gonna check out Value Village for any cheap, second hand scrubs

Weed out my book library so I have a couple shelves for my nursing books.

Get rid of my "corporate office" clothes...(maybe have a bonfire)

Plan some nutrious, wholesome meals that I can make in batches...so I don't have to think about it in school...

Take a vacation!! (since I probably won't be able to for 3 years!)

Ok, that's me...what about you?

:yeah:

So, against my wishes, I am waiting to buy everything! :) I'm loving this thread because it really makes me excited thinking about starting up! :)

Nice to see you, FriendlyGhost, and thank you...I know, the anticipation creates an unbelievable energy, doesn't it?

But anyway, being an EMT will hopefully help me when school start...

Sweetsmuckers, I think your EMT experience will really be helpful for you...I was toying with the idea of applying to the Paramedic program too.

~Make sure all my car maintence is up to date

Irishowl, that's a really good idea that I hadn't thought about and I know i need to do an oil change!

So here's a little philosophical musing to start off the day...I take yoga classes regularly and one of the topics of discussion lately is transition...for those of us in the north northern hemisphere, we're moving from winter into spring, and for us, from our "old" life patterns into nursing school and a new professional path...often we think about the beginning and the end, where we are and where we want to be, but the middle, the transition, can be a bit of a "no person's land"...So for us, the transition is the waiting period where we prepare physically, mentally, emotionally...it can be hard!

So, I send a positive, strong energy to everyone out there waiting and preparing for school!:)

Thanks for sharing that with us! I love yoga! Unfortunately, I haven't had time lately for it. I took it last year this time for my physical education credit and absolutely loved it...my body never felt better!
