I'm stuck on this question on my assignment and i need help! Also what is the policy for when a family member asks about a patients change in heart medication?
Anytime the lab is calling with a critical lab value, the nurse should use a read back method along with providing their name, and then notifying physician and documenting
I am not sure I really understand your question about the medication change. Patients and family should always be educated about any medication, especially medication a pt will be d/c'ed with.
It will vary where you work. At my hospital you read back the result and they ask your full name for their records. You owuld then document that you were notified of a critical value and let the doctor know.
If a family member asks about someone's meds you can explain the medication change as long as they are the POA.Where I work only the POA can be given patient information.
