Okay, I have noticed patients (some, not all) think they can get away with saying just about anything to their nurses. Things I don't feel they would say to other people. What some of the rudest you have been told?
*A patient receiving physical therapy (87 female) mentioned how handsome the therapist is. Another nurse in the room pointed me out as his "sweet, little wife". The patient promptly proceeded to ask me "what he wanted with something ugly like you, couldn't he do better?"
*A friend of mine, and LPN, has Psoriasis. She does have "outbreaks" even though she has treatment, and she is very self-conscience about it. A patient asked her about her elbows, and she explained what it was and that it wasn't contagious. The patient asked another nurse to speak to the supervisor. She told the super that it was nasty and she couldn't look at it any longer. And the super proceeded to make the nurse "dress" the elbows!:angryfire
*I was sick last week (still am, but better). I still had to work, and hadn't sleep much the night before. I oversleep, and didn't have time to put on makeup, fix my hair, ect. Just showered, slapped my hair in a pony tail, and run out the door. A patient, a 30 year old female, informed me I looked like s**t and should be ashamed to be seen like that. And she didn't feel comfortable with me as a nurse since I obviously was unable to care for myself.
I'm sure some of you have gotten worse...so let's hear it!
I'm a natural red head. I've lost count of how many prs (male & female) ask me if I matched "down there". I'd just grin and walk away.
I've been curious about that myself before. I suppose when I'm an old lady I'll ask someone. (unless you would like to divulge this information on an anonymous internet forum )
I have two kids, I delivered both naturally, breastfed for a total of 25 mos... But I look young (well maybe not so much anymore lol) and I often have patients ask me things like...
"well how would you know" In regards to say labor... Well because I had two 10 lb babies, I know it can suck but we can get you thru this and the funny thing is you will probably decide to do this again... is what I'd like to say.
I had a girl say one day when trying to help her breastfeed "these are not your nipples" because apparently she thought I had no way of knowing what nursing a baby is like. I of course wanted to tell her that I in fact did and do know what it feels like to nurse a baby and not only did I do it for 10 mos the first time... but another 15 mos with my second baby. I just told her that I had nursed...
One day that sort of took the cake for me was I had a miscarriage followed by a d&c last summer... On the day of my follow up exam I was called to work, they were dying and I was literally just sitting around feeling okay anyway, although emotionally I wasn't myself yet... I went to work to find that they needed me to labor a 16 yr old with a very overbearing sister and mother... The girl was not handling labor well and I had provided stadol twice and told her that our next option was an epidural... the patient said to me "I don't want one of those F%*$ing things" I said "okay" and left the room. The mother followed me a few minutes later and said she changed her mind and that she wanted one now. So, we get her an epi and she's feeling better, the room clears out a little and the sister was talking to the mother in the hall about how I didn't seem to really understand labor etc... something like I must not have kids since I was so impatient (I don't feel like I was impatient, but I was honest about the labor process, that they had to be supportive etc) Anyway the sister walks back in the room, plops down in the chair and says to me "Do you have kids" "well yes actually I have two" I say... And she blurts out "You just don't seem like the type" I guess she thought I wasn't very maternal, the patient by the way delivered a beautiful baby girl during my appt time so I never made it, she also named her one of my favorite girl names... the whole process was very bitter sweet for me.
A couple of years ago, an older male patient demanded to know, "Who's in charge of all of these black slaves? I'm sick and tired of the care being provided by all of these (insert 'N' word)."The charge nurse, who is also black, responded, "I'm in charge, and there are no (insert 'N' word) at this facility, sir. There are no black slaves here. They are nursing staff members."
That charge nurse is pretty gut!!!
Had a pt who had had a baby 1 week prior and was admitted for complications. The OB and her PCP could not pin down exactly what was wrong. She tells me "man, I had the best sex last night. I'm telling ya, sex right after a baby is wonderful. You should try it. And my boyfriend loves going down on me after birth." Keep in mind she had this sex in our hospital bed.I told the dr that the reason for her troubles may be that she was having sex immediately after having a lady partsl birth.
That is disgusting, but funny at the same time (in my twisted mind anything gross can be funny)!!!

Here is a funny one, even though it may not fit here. When I worked in psych as an aide, a patient was really giving us a hard time to the point that we were about to restrain him. The doctor asked him "Are you hearing voices?" Patient says "Hell, I hear yours...and you are bugging me". We all, including the doctor and the patient laughed so hard that we left him alone. The patient quieted down and we didn't restrain him at all.
I actually LOLd at that one as well!

Yes, a sentiment like that is not for a public forum. Do you want the reading public to think that nurses are killing patients they don't like with narcotics?
