I like working as a team to take care of a patient through entire process of surgery, learning a new thing about how the body works(or doesn't), and being able to make a positive difference in someone's life. Surgeons are like mechanics of the body, and I like to help them 'tune up' or 'fix' a person's body.
I love the fast pace. I seem to have some ADD going on and I love that it doesn't get boring. Also, it's a specialized area, no one could just come in and take my place. It takes at least 6 months of training (no floats here). Lots of strong personalities. Lots of blood and guts. You are an advocate for someone in their most vulnerable state. I love it!
Most of the time, you get an almost immediate sense of satisfaction, because you get to see in a very tangible way how you've helped that person. I love surgery itself, it's just cool. When you have a good team, work is almost fun.
Also, one patient at a time, no obnoxious visitors and you while you do have to take call, you're not working every other holiday and weekend(unless you want to).

Just wanted to learn more about the specialty since I only had 1 day clinical rotation at the OR. It was exciting to me and I want to know why the rest of you OR nurses went into OR. =)
So... what is it about the OR that you like or don't like about?
