What if nursing diploma is lost?

Published

Hello!

I've got a question, a friend of mine asked me to post it here. Several years ago he graduated a colledge and he has a nurse degree. But under certain circumstances he lost his nursung diploma. The colledge agrees to give him a duplicate of that diploma. The only differense between the previuous diploma and the second one will be the word "duplicate" on the top of it. The duplicate is a complete and a legal copy of the original diploma.

Will the CGFNS accept the duplicate or it deals only with the original diploma? My friend really whants to apply to the CGFNS but he is very concerned about this fact.

Thank you.

I don't see why not. They can always call and verify if it legit or not. He should also contact the state's BON and see what they say. Good luck to you and your friend. :)

Thank you for your quick reply. but CGFNS can't call to the college - it's in Russia and noone speaks English there unless someone in CGFNS speaks Russian.

will it be enough for CGFNS if they send their regular request to the college (as they always do when they get the application) and get the standerd respond from the college? or they definitely need some kind of special cofirmation?

why does he have to call to BON?

will it be a problem if he finished the college several years ago but the duplicate is issued in 2005? but it will be stated in duplicate that he graduated before.

thank you.

Oh wow, I'm not a nurse so it was a suggestion. Check in a little bit later as later is when there are usually more people and they will come across your post. :)

Hi Xela,

There is no problem with a duplicate diploma. For starters you only send photocopies to CGFNS. YOU DO NOT SEND THE ORIGINALS... Second they would verify it to the school whether your friend really finished a nursing degree that is comparable to a nursing degree in the U.S. So they have to evaluate your friend's credentials...IT HAS TO BE IN ENGLISH...so if your friend's credentials are not in English, you have to ask your friend to HAVE his/her CREDENTIALS TRANSLATED TO ENGLISH from AN ACCREDITED TRANSLATOR.

CGFNS do not make phone calls to verify things. Everything are written in papers and should be certified by the school and/or to the BOARD/AGENCY in which your friend is LICENSED as a registered nurse in RUSSIA! And documents should be in English.

This has nothing to do with the BON. I am not sure why he would need to phone them here............

As Dale stated, there needs to be an English translation of everything. A duplicate Diploma is not an issue at all, the verification of exactly what classes was in his curriculum is the most important and that is what they are concerned with.

It also must be a translation done by a licensed translator or it will not be accepted.
