What is it with the nurses in LTC?

OMG! I don't understand why the nurses in LTC have soooo much attitude. Wait, let me back up. I am a student, and am currently in my geri rotation, which makes this the 2nd facility that I have been exposed to. Anyway, the nurses and staff that I have personally run accross are the meanest, most selfish, and downright rudest people I have ever had the pleasure of encountering. Have I just had 2 experiences in a row that correlate, or do LTCF's breed negativity?

perhaps we need a big sign at the Nurses station, THIS IS A WORK STATION,NOT A GAS STATION!:lol2: :lol2: But I doubt if it would have any effect on some of them, they have hides like rhinos.

i work in ltc because it is not stressful compared to acute care. I've been a nurse long enough to know the difference. I used to leave acute care 2 hours late on a good day, and I was the most efficient (meaning most left 3-4 hours late) this was at one facility. there were others where i could leave an hour late. since being in ltc, i have to find things to do. especially pm shift, There would be hours to spare. One team had 30 patients, the other 27, the other was sub acute so it varied by day, but all were similar in med paSs completion time.

someone mentioned having an hour to pass meds, the law actually gives us two hours.

It sounds like your close to on the right track, lily, as i do sense quite an attitude in most of the posters here. Where I work, I can think of one or two with potential attitude problems, but who am i to judge anyway. i just did, i know, .....God forgive me.
