What NP specialty offers the most flexibility?

Nursing Students NP Students

I am applying to a nurse practitioner program and would like some advice on what specialties are like. I was a medical school student that left medical school because I realized that the demands of a doctor and quality of life was not something I wanted to pursue further so I left in my first semester of medical school. However, I love patients and I love caring for people so I would like to work as a nurse practitioner. Which specialties offer the most flexibility? I feel like as a Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (ACNP) you can work in different settings such as inpatient care and outpatient care. I want to be able to do research and be able to work in the clinic.

Specializes in CARN.

that is awesome do you enjoy it?

Specializes in ICU, trauma, neuro.

I believe that we "work to live" rather than "live to work". So no I cannot say that I particularly enjoy my job. Having said that I "dislike" my job far less than when I worked nights in ICU especially after we became a trauma unit. Even if I were paid 100million per year to photograph nude models, I probably wouldn't enjoy that job very much either. I'm simply not "wired" to enjoy my job.  Still, I believe that it is a blessing to do a job where the goal is to help others. Also, I'm always happy when I have a 90 minute "no show" and can go in my living room and play a couple of games of Battlefield IV (Golmud Railway Hardcore is pretty much the only map I play).  Pretty much the only things that I really "enjoy" in life would be playing Battlefield IV, snorkeling in really clear water (like Kauai), hiking in beautiful places, listening to paranormal podcasts, and watching television shows that I like such as Supernatural (which is now being canceled), oh and eating vast quantities of food during the four days per week that I do not fast.
