I want you to think about the person you work with whom you most respect as a nurse.
What qualities do they have that makes them stand out?
Is there one particular quality that seems to make the best nurses you know stand out, or is it a collection of several, or just an overall sense?

-Willing to help coworkers.
-Calm in "battle".
-Able to create strong boundaries w/ patients w/o coming off as rude.
-Great sense of humor.
-Doesn't create drama (no gossip)
-Conscientious. Does not leave an excessive amount of tasks for others to do and will even stay a few minutes late to tie up loose ends.
-Holds him/herself to the same standards he/she holds others to.
-Keeps up to date on nursing practice and will listen with an open mind to someone who has a different way of doing things.

This is going to sound corny, but here it is: they inspire the nurses around them to do better.
Their excellent qualities extend beyond just them and their patients. The ability to inspire is a fairly rare quality.
If you ever meet a true "star" in nursing, look for this.
