I registered for CNA class yesterday. I had heard rumors that some people spend the night in front of the ROP offices, but couldn't believe that. I did decide, however, to wake up at 6 am, 3 hours in advance to register. When I arrived at 6:30 am, there were already 11 people waiting in line! The girl at the front of the line arrived at 5 am! After standing in line for 3 hours, I finally registered. I was the 12th person to receive a slot out of 15 slots available.
Does this situation seem ridiculous to you? Is this what registering for CNA classes in your area is like? And just because this CNA class is offered by the local ROP does NOT mean it's cheap. It was $1200, but we also have to buy our own books and uniforms, so in the end, it's almost the same as paying the Red Cross's fees where everything is included, $1400.
It's a bit sad that the whole situation has become so desperate. I'm in my thirties and attempting a career change. I remember a time when schools were not impacted and nobody would stand in line 3-4 hours to get into a class that teaches you how to wipe poop-laden butts. Half the people in line really needed the class for a job; the other half (like me) really needed this class as a pre-req for nursing school.
Just imagine how much worse it's going to get in the future!

Wow that is scary. I am happy you were able to sign up though. I was able to get my CNA license through my high school. The world is changing and it is a dog eat dog world out there. lol.
BTW what is ROP?

ROP = regional occupation program. It's kind of like an adult education program sponsored by local city governments/state government. But they do give priority to high school students for some classes. They also do EMT, dental assisting, medical assistant, etc,
