What do you like or dislike most about the WOCN specialty?

I have an offer for a position on an in-hospital wound care team, and I'm not sure what to do. Dressing changes were my favorite part of the job when I worked med/surg, which is what got me interested in this in the first place.

I originally applied in the Summer and was disappointed when I didn't get an offer. Since then I recommitted to my current job (procedural nursing) and decided to stay put for a while and pursue an online master's.

Cut to today, and they have another position open and have offered it to me! I'm supposed to start my master's program this Spring. Would it be insane to work full time, work on a master's program one class at a time and simultaneously complete the WOCN certification within two years of hire?

Any insights would be appreciated. Thanks!

Sorry, missed this thread. I literally started my first WOC Nurse position a few months ago, and for me where I am and my coworker, it is pretty much what I've been hoping for.

It is a hospital position, we work M-F, 4 days each, 0.9 FTE. No weekends. no holidays (this was my first time in years without working holidays!)

There are different approaches. At my place, we do the wound vac changes. Sometimes I'll do the dressing change, other times we simply assess the wound, put in orders and the staff nurse would do the dressing (especially if it requires a meds from the pharmacy). I enjoy that I get to see the coolest wounds in the hospital, though. ?  It is asses, document, orders... Then the stuff like meetings.. more meetings... some other meetings.. Get to teach classes. Create educational flyers..  Lots of variety. Usually time to eat (sure I may type between bites).. An office with a desk.. And the opportunity to wander the whole hospital. ?  The drawbacks are some of the tasks I don't want to do (paperwork).

It does sound like a lot to take on at once. But you really only know when you try.If it turns out that you can't manage it, you can probably defer school for a semester to get some breathing room.
