What if you have less than a 3.0 GPA?

Hello,

I am a tele/ICU nurse and I really would like to go back to get my masters in nursing. I have less than a 3.0 cummalative GPA and I have done my research for masters program in Florida and I have not found one that will except anything lower than a 3.0 according to their web pages.

I am willing to take the GRE to coincide with my 2.8 GPA. Does anyone know of any schools in Florida that will except a GPA lower than a 3.0?

Thanks

I don't think schools really "advertise" it, but if you do really well on your GRE, write a stellar personal statement and have great references, I bet you'll get in. Make sure to "explain" in your personal statement why your grades are a bit low. My advice is to go for it! I was in your same boat and got in to several really good schools that say the same thing (I did well on the GRE, had great references and wrote a unique personal statement). Especially if your grades improved toward the end of your academic career, they are often willing to overlook early transgressions. Good Luck!

I would talk to the coordinator of the program you are interested in. Many schools will allow you to take one or two grad-level classes as a non-matriculated student and then will consider the grades you receive in them when you apply for matriculated status. If you do well in those courses and prove that you are able to handle grad-level courses, then most likely, you won't have a problem being accepted even if your GPA is below 3.0.
