Students: What do you inspire to contribute to the nursing profession?

This should be something you think about often. Remember you spend just as much time at work or doing work related things as you do at home, therefore it should be something you love and passionate about. So when you love something you put energy and time into it to nurture and develop it. So what have you done or what do you plan to do?

Specializes in ED, Medicine, Case Management.

Do you mean what do I "aspire" (as in hope to achieve) to contribute to the field or are you looking for what qualities I have that are inspirational or that I pull inspiration from in order to contribute to the field of nursing?

Specializes in L&D, infusion, urology.

I'm a new grad, so not a student anymore, but I entered nursing school with this as a major goal of mine- patient advocacy. I want my patients to feel heard and to have their desires understood and met and respected. I want to stretch out of the box and coordinate with nontraditional methods to acknowledge their cultural beliefs or family structures. I feel that patients deserve to be heard and respected, and sometimes this can get lost in the mix. I am happy to see that some measures are in place to ensure this with certain aspects of care, but we have a long way to go with this. I love learning from my patients and taking their experiences with me moving forward with patient care. I love drawing on that experience when another patient later asks for something similar, and I'm already familiar with that which they seek, and I am thus able to help them. Seeing patients happy with their care and at peace and in control where they're able to be gives me a lot of satisfaction.

Specializes in Neuro, Telemetry.
