:wink2: Okay School Nurses......just for fun, let's fess-up on what we would like to say to teacher's on those school days when your clinic visit's are high and you are up to your elbow's with little "sickies" ?????

Here goes mine :chair:

1. Please do not call me to run to your classroom and pick up a little turd

that one of your students "dropped" on the floor....this is not a medical

emergency !

2. No I cannot repair shoes for you or your student...sorry.

3. Yes I realize that your Johnny has a loose tooth, but what can I do about

it ?? No....I will not pull it !

4. Sorry but I cannot/will not think up some medical reason to send your

classroom "problem child" home. You are the teacher...you handle him !

5. Sorry but I cannot give your student a Tylenol that you send him to the

clinic with. I appreciate your concern, but no can do.

6. Not every kid with a sore throat needs to go home. Deal......

7. You may not understand this, but your student was in the clinic for an

hour an never vomited.....sorry that she did it when she re-entered the

classroom. Really...I am !

8. Please do not send 6 students from your classs at the same time. I

probably have 7 already waiting to see me already.

9. If your student complains of feeling sick immediately as school is starting,

please allow them to remain in class for a little while, so you can see if

they "turn the corner" and start to feel better. Insisting that they go

5 minutes into the school day is not advised.

10. Oh and sending your student home is MY CALL...not yours. I am the

medical professional...not you. I don't tell you how to teach....please

don't tell me how to run my clinic !

I'm not a school nurse, but I have heard this one from a couple of them that I know... Please don't ask me to convince little Johnny or Susie's parents to put them on Ritalin. That is a call for the parents and the pediatrician, and teachers need to stay out of medical decisions. (Not trashing teachers, but this is a serious enough issue that several states now have laws against teachers making such ''recommendations'' to parents.)

Yes I see this all of the time, although it has slacked off because of new regulations.

Teachers can really drive me bonkers....why do they think they know more about sick kids than the school nurse? I love #10!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks for the grin :)

I'll tell you why these things happen. I was a teachers aid for a semester and teachers are looking for just about any reason to get rid of trouble makers, and as many of the others as they can so they can take a few minutes to sit at their desk and have a moment to themselves.

I watched it happen. Any time they have a chance, they will send the child somewhere. Even if the child is in the rest room for quiet a while.

When I was working or knew the teachers it didnt happen to my child, but I'm telling you, they were sending my child from a math class to speech therapy several hours a week. HELLO Math is a needed class and they cant learn it if they arent in class.:angryfire

I cant say all of them, but there are enough of them that I can see where a clinic would be full. They would send them to my room for help because they just did NOT have time.

Speech therapy isn't a drop in service. It has to be written into the IEP, which is signed by parents and administrators. How were they getting away with this, and what did the speech therapist have to say?
