Hi! My name is Julie. Upon graduating from college, I worked as a mental health tech in a psychiatric unit of a children's hospital. I really fell in love with the kids and just the over all atmosphere of the hospital. But the job was not a permanent one, and I then got into teaching...that was 6 years ago.
Last year, I resigned from teaching so that I could go and finish pre-req's to begin nursing school....but I changed my mind the last minute, and asked for my teaching job back in the summer.
So here I am again, like every year, wanting to go back to school to become a nurse. I have so many concerns. Is it worth it? How will my family survive financially? How do nursing hours affect a family?
I have a million reasons of why I feel that teaching is not a good career for me. Ilove being with the kids, but I do not like the grading, the lack of effort, the school politics (which I know there are politics in every job), the mundane redunancy of Monday thru Friday, 8:15-4:15....to put simply I am bored. But, I am comfortable, if not complacent. Is it worth messing up the "comfy" life to pursue something I have always wanted? I am very confused.
I am married and have a 17 month old daughter. I want to be there for my family. I hate to think of missing holidays....but then I think about the possibility of only working 3-4 days a week. Most importantly, I feel that I am setting a bad example to my daughter by not going after what I want...just settling for the easy way now. I would hate for her to not try because something was hard. I just have no clue what to do. Can anyone help ease my mind?
Thanks-
Julie

:welcome: to allnurses. com! Unfortunately only you can decide what you want. Maybe you can try putting the pro's & cons of each job on a piece of paper. Sometimes that helps me get a little more organized perspective, something visual...good luck in whatever you choose to do!
