What I would give to go back and not become a nurse.

Published

Just another rant of mine. Nursing is very stressful. If you can please find a way to shadow a nurse or see the field before becoming a nurse. It is very very stressful and has ruined my life. I just posted another thread and I am happy to say I am quitting soon. I am hoping in 1 year at the most when I build up my online business to get more sales.

Yes you make good money but I would prefer to get paid less and work in a low stress job that you actually enjoy going to. Nursing is not it.

i have gained over 60lbs since being a nurse, I am balding, have lost so many friends, I get anxiety and depression thinking about work, sometimes a feel nauseated and vomit in the morning before work and shake..etc... I am anxious now because I work tomorrow. I feel terrible and sick

I am so sorry that it has turned out so badly for you. Seems like you gave as much as you could. Not everyone is hardwired for this work, no matter how much effort they put forth. Thank you for your honesty. I really hope that your post will trigger some serious self-reflection for wannabe nurses.

Wishing you the best of luck on your career switch.

Unfortunate for you that you hated nursing, and it's good that you have a plan to get out of it. Do realize, however, that many people love challenging work and don't consider it "stressful" in the same way that you do. People who thrive on a busy, active, and mentally stimulating environment do well in nursing, and tend to like it.

That said, there are many cons to a nursing career. Students should have some inkling of what it entails before they enter the field. But even if you get into it and decide it's not for you, only YOU can let that "ruin your life." Many people switch careers during their lifetimes and can find a way to make it a positive. Nursing was my second career after spending three years in a job I hated. No life ruined at all.
