I put an application in at an assisted living facility in my area a while back, hoping to get their weekend option. Unfortunately they didn't call me for that position but called me a month later for a full time evening shift, but I have a full time gig that I like and have no intention of leaving it unless perhaps I find something that I love and can be relatively sure that it is stable. Anyway, the point is I respectfully declined. They called me and requested an interview some time later for a "prn, potentially part time at some point in the future" which was great, I was excited. The interview went well, the adon showed me around the place explain LPN job duties etc. It seemed pretty cush compared to skilled nursing, the pay was a dollar more than my other job, but they don't offer benefits of any kind even for full time. Looking back at it he seemed a little to quick to offer the job, but I accepted, even did the new hire paper work and scanned my finger in the time clock that day! He mentioned about getting back in touch to set up orientation; I was under the impression he was supposed to call me. The week following I didn't even think about not having heard from him, it was spring break from my classes and I had picked up a bunch of extra shifts at my other job. I call about a week and a half later, left a message, No response. Then I call the week after, which was the end of last week, still no response. I e-mailed the DON who I had also met at the interview, nothing creepy or stocker-ish just that I hadn't heard back from the adon and wanted to make sure everything was on track, that was friday and it is now the end of the business day Monday. Am I crazy or paranoid, or did they just drop me? And is there something wrong with this place, offering a job like that? I didn't even think there was much substance to the interview? Or is that the norm is true assisted livings where the extent of your job is giving insulin, taking doctors orders, and assessing emergency situations?

ltc and alf have such high turnover their hiring is nutty/easy at times. sounds like you were too wishy-washy for them, you forgot/ignored them, so now they've done the same to you.

I disagree. If he offered you the job, you accepted, you did paperwork...they need to tell you what's up and set up your orientation. I would keep calling until you hear back. Unless you've decided you might not want to work for a disorganized facility that can't send a quick e-mail or make a 2 minute phone call when given several business days to do so after you requested a return answer (not to mention a week+ when they should have contacted you without being provoked).

Welcome to the world of long term care.....if this is how they respond to you, and you aren't even in orientation, I'd cut my losses and find a job at another facility where they aren't so disorganized.
