I'm finishing up Fundamentals and heading into Adults I and Mental Health for the summer semester. In my program (4 semester ADN) the summer semester is the one that most people end up flunking out of. It is 12 weeks compared to our normal 16 weeks and has more info to learn.
What would you say your hardest section/topic of Med/Surg was (that most people struggled with)?
Do any of you have any good tips on getting through?
I just bought the Saunders NCLEX review and Prentice Hall Med/Surg Reviews and Rationales on Amazon. Anybody have experience with these books or others that you recommend?
Thanks!

The hardest subject for me to learn is/was neuro. For my class, they seemed to struggle a lot with cardiac and respiratory which are my strongest areas.
I wish I had some good tips for you that are new but it's pretty much the same everyone else will tell you. Study hard and try to get in with a good SMALL study group.
There were 4-5 of us who studied together weekly. All of us were stronger in different areas and if it weren't for my study group, I never would have survived nursing school.
Study your books, study your notes and ASK A LOT OF QUESTIONS while you can!!!!!!
WHen you get out into the real world, you may not have time to fully research stuff so do it while you can.

I had difficulty with cardio in the last med/surg class. The department offered an EKG class and that greatly helped. I also purchased some of the Lippincott review books which helped reinforce what was presented in lecture and the book. The series starts with, "How to get A's in _____ (med/surg, peds, maternal/child, family, etc.)

They were all hard. I struggled pretty bad in Med surg 1.

traditionally neuro and endocrine have the reputation as "hardest" in my program...for some reason those were my favorite units though, I think I'm a masochist!

endocrine, but I had clinicals then too. After I finished my clinicals it all seemed easier. It seems like everyone struggles at whatever part we are in while they are doing clinicals. Very time consuming.
