What happens if.....

Published

I am an ER nurse on assignment in Nebraska. Had an incident with a minor patient and possible sexual abuse. The kid was 15 very intoxicated and had the crap beat out of him by an uncle (who he was drinking with).

I pulled his pants off and went to put the urinal in place I noticed he had a purple condom on his member. I removed it and placed it in an evidence bag for the officer on the case.

Then I wondered, what do I do if I am called to testify if this goes to trial?

Who pays for me to go back if needed? etc...

Your thoughts???

It depends on who wants to call you back to testify, the defendant or the prosecution(the state) The one who calls you to return is the one who would need to pay you.

Every time I read an ER post I'm so thankful to be working in CVSICU!!! Give me a sundownie 80y/o with 5 drips over a 15y/o possible abuse/sexual assault ANYDAY. Sorry I have little input on your question but thanks for helping me appriciate my job. My best guess is you would be given an opportunity to give a deposition where you live now, either through an lawyer in the area or the courts (depending on which side wanted it) long before they flew you back out. You could get dragged back to court but I find it unlikely unless you could give direct testimony about anything the kid said or did while under your care.
