  1. Been there and done that with ya.... I know where you are coming from. Thanks for the input.
  2. What does "good communication" mean? Weekly updates? personal meetings? emails?
  3. Yes that helps! Thanks.
  4. It really seems to be the case, if it is not the heart and soul of the organization from the top down, it will never take off. It's just lip service.
  5. Hi, Just wondering about your thoughts on the Studer group? Does your facility use them? What's your response etc? I have been apart of a couple facilities that used them One facility went all the way, it was a fantastic place to work. It really was a site to see. The other place was half ass about it. I did not even know they used them until I started digging. It was a mixture of trying to do a good job and "screw you, get back to work"...lol I'd be interested in hearing your thoughts. Also, are there any other programs like this around? Thanks, David

  8. I agree with your response about managers needing to manage. But why do the unions have to protect the dead beats? Why can't they work in conjuction to ensure that the lazy ones are dealt with? I think we all know that everyone can be on their best behavior for a little while and then become jaded or the true person comes out. It's a double edge sword when hiring, you need the staff and you try to give the benifit of doubt but then you get stuck. I still think the unions should police their own, after all they are a representaion of the union. I respect your responce to the regarding the CNA stance on abortion etc. I can hold a different view, but I can not give money knowing this will work against my conviction.
  9. I would have to say the main reason I would not join is the stance on abortion and the support of it. Speaking about CNA. If they at least took a nutral stand, I would be more apt to join. The other reason, Unions are terrible at correcting their own. If they would take a stand against lazy incompetent staff and nurses and not allow it to become a managment issue, I would consider joining. I do not like being associated with lazy losers. I KNOW THAT NOT ALL ARE !!! BUT to me, it seems to be a breeding ground for the lazy to hide and flurish. I do not like an additional layer of beuracracy. It's bad enough dealing with managment, but then you have to go through the union. It takes years for some things to change when it could take days otherwise.
  10. I was glad to see this thread. I have been aware that I had ADHD for a few years but just recently chose to do something about it. Mainly because I was having trouble reading. I just could not concentrate/focus while reading and I am looking at sitting for a couple cert exams and starting my MSN degree. It was also causing a tone of anxiety and effecting my job and work. I really began to notice it when I started working in an office setting. That was shear torture..... I am back doing ER and that has halped. My doc started me on Strattera and that has helped. It was AWFUL the first 4 days or so, I felt like I was crawling out of my skin, the anxiety was so awful. But now, it is much better and I can sit and read again. The impulsiveness is much better as well.
  11. I am an ER nurse on assignment in Nebraska. Had an incident with a minor patient and possible sexual abuse. The kid was 15 very intoxicated and had the crap beat out of him by an uncle (who he was drinking with). I pulled his pants off and went to put the urinal in place I noticed he had a purple condom on his member. I removed it and placed it in an evidence bag for the officer on the case. Then I wondered, what do I do if I am called to testify if this goes to trial? Who pays for me to go back if needed? etc... Your thoughts???

I say go for it. You will find that you are stronger with adults than you realize. You will never know all the drugs etc... that's what the resource materials are for. I think facilities are also interested in a person who is willing to learn and flexible and have a base of experience to draw from.

  14. Thanks for the advice. So here is what happended. the hospital in in a VERY rural area...VERY no paper, no craigslist for this area. They found a place, but it was an hour away. I was ok with this, they were going to help cover the gas. I was not crazy about it, as i will be working nights and the last thing I want to do is drive an hour. A few hours after I wrote this post, my recruiter called and said there was another traveler who was there and had found a place. So we connected and what we are doing is sharing a hotel room together. He went and looked at them and it was clean and quite ec... Talk about travel adventure. I have never met this guy before, although in talking with him, he seemed nice enough. He is also a new traveler himself and lives about 400 miles away and will be going home on his days off. So With the stipend I will make an additional $1000 a month after the rent is paid. This will either be great or a complete nightmare ! We shall see.
  15. Hello, I was planning on leaving tomorrow evening for my first travel assignment 1200 miles away in Nebraska (I am from Ohio). I got a call yesterday that the agency can not find me a place to live. It is a VERY smallrual community and I do belive they have tried. They want me to stay at a Days INN. I am not thrilled about this. I wanted a kitchen to cook in. I have dietary needs and cook all the time. I told them if I would stay at the Hotel, but they need to cominsate me for having to eat out for my meals. Do you think they will? The hotel has a free contintal breakfast every AM but this does me no good, as its all carbs etc and does not meet my dietary needs and I will also be on 3rd shift, so my breakfast would be in the evening. I also wanted to bring my cat, but if i am ina one room hotel, I am not going to. I am a little nerveous about this, so far the company has been on top of everything, so i am still planning on leaving. But I really want a place to live when I get there !! Any thoughts would be great !!!
