  1. I had to sign up for this last semester as a Respiratory Therapy student. My teachers explained it to us this way: The company conducts a background check and sends it to the hospitals we will be clinic-ing. The jist of it is that we are given a 'score' on hireability-- no personal info is given out to either the hospitals or my professors. So basically, if you have bad credit or criminal convictions that flag the system, you get a lesser score than a person with a clean record. The hospital then chooses to hire you based on your score, they do not see all your personal info.
  2. I have the same thing. There are times when I have just broken out in tears for no apparent reason. At other times, during class (especially when I was in the midst of learning difficult material) I would shut down and just start sobbing. Part of it is the fear of never being able to learn the material, and then I start to second-guess myself, making things worse. It is very embarassing to cry in front of strangers. One thing that someone taught me is that when you feel the anxiety/panic start to get to you, you have to change the way you handle it. Usually for me, I will slump inward and give in to the fears that are running through my mind. When you feel the anxiety start to take over, change your posture. Stand up straight, look around you with your head held high. Breathe slowly and tell yourself you can handle the situation. This has worked for me. What I always hated was people, especially my family, just telling me that I needed to be tougher. I am a tough person, I just handle stress in a very different way than other people. Just wanted to let you know that you are not alone. Good Luck.
  3. I'll admit it. I'm not a nurse. I did want to be a nurse at one time, but now Im going the RT route. I researched nursing for a long time before making the decision NOT to become one. Considering the fact that most of you complain (on here at least) of not getting fair treatment, of getting cursed out by doctors/patients, of being overstressed, overworked and not getting they pay you feel you deserve, why oh why won't you join a union? Why do you come here to vent about administration or policies when it doesn't have to be that way? I want to know what makes you feel that you don't deserve to be heard. Iron workers have a union, boiler-makers have a union, auto workers have a union. Not to sound holier-than-thou-, but most RN have more education than those that I've previously mentioned. So, why is it that you refuse to unite, and stand against a system that seems to disrespect you? I have to know. SB
  4. Tell her the excess O2 will make air bubbles in her blood that could cause her to have an blood clot or worse. Tell her she will eventually start fizzing like a bottle of soda if she doesn't heed your warning.
  5. Beach Bum. 'Nuff said.
  6. I am a little bitter with GSU at the moment. I will be graduating with a 3.6 GPA from a nearby college this May. I applied to the nursing program at GSU and was not accepted. Despite the fact that I made A's in Chem I, Micro, A&P I and II. I just got the note telling me that they had a high quality of applicants, blah blah blah. So, apparently, I'm not good enough for the nursing program, but GSU wants me to be in thier Honors program. ********* In class the next day, I find out that the girl that sits next to me WAS accepted in the program, despite the fact that she hasn't even finished her core classes, much less taken Micro, 2 Englishes, and her GPA is waaay lower than mine. So, I'm going to AASU this fall, for RT. I think I'll enjoy it alot better.
