What happens if we fail the 3rd attempt in Canada?

Published

Hi, all the health care professionals out there!

I am just wondering if anyone has been in the same situation as me before? I just wrote my 3rd attempt at the beginning of June, and I am anxiously waiting to hear back my results; however, I do not have a good feeling about it. I think I might have failed it. I am preparing for the worst right now. I am just wondering if anyone know what happens if the candidate fail the 3rd attempt? I have heard about refresher course, however, CARNA said there is no such thing. For 4th attempt, it would be based on particular situation such as a family member loss within 2 days of the exam. I don't know if I am able to go to the US and write the NPLEX, I heard I have to get a job with the board first because I can write the exam. Do I have to go through another 4 years of school again to get another 3 chances? Or do I just need to do an accelerated track for 2 years?

Can someone please give me some advice? Thanks very much!

You would have to ask the CARNA what they would find acceptable. You may have to start back at square one.4th attempts are only allowed in very rare cases.

I've read people say they are applying for a 4th try but don't remember anyone coming back to say they'd been granted it!

I heard it makes a difference if someone has learning disability and they wrote the exam without special accommodation. Not sure if this is true or not.

Look on the CARNA website, if someone requires special accomodation they need to notify CARNA 2-3 months prior to writing the exam.

If you had a disability you would have asked for accommodation before you had three tries.Plus you would have to have proof you were diagnosed with a learning disability.
