They go by a points system. I'm worried that it was rigged! What if I don't fit the profile? I'm so confused!

I see no reason you can't meet with your academic advisor and discuss your dissappointment in not getting in. I'm sure they can offer you tips on improving your chances when you next apply. There are multiple factors that could be at play- Is it possible that applicants that are re-applying get a higher placement score just because they have shown a committment to apply a second time? Only the academic advisor for that school can get you the information you need. If you don't get a clear answer, ask for an appointment with the assistant dean for that department, or even one on the professor/instructors. A general "academic advisor" may not be on the inside tract with the CON.

One of the most telling things, is that the school you applied to has 19 seats and 55 applicants. More than likely the 19 who were accepted had all A's no B's and maybe as high or higher TEAS scores.

The first school I applied to takes the NLN entrance exam, I got 99% the highest possible score. I had all A's in my pre-requisites and a 3.0 for a previous Bachelor's degree. I didn't have enough points to get into the class they just accepted for the fall. Now I am awaiting to hear from my "plan B" school. In the meantime, I talked to an advisor who deals specifically with the nursing program and found out what class I can take now that will apply to my nursing program or help me get in next time I apply if I don't get into my plan B school. There was only one class I can take, so I am taking it now in the summer, if I don't get in, I will not be taking classes in the fall, and applying to start in January.

With a program that has 19 seats and 55 applicants AND they're on a points system, it sounds very much like 19 people had more points than you did. Academics and test scores are typically not the only scores they take into account.

For instance, at Sac State, Academics count for up to 50 points, TEAS score counts for up to 50 points, and then they also take into account foreign language, healthcare experience, financial status, and whether you attended a "disadvantaged" high school (all worth 3 points). If the top 19 scores were, say, above 100 and you had 99... you'd be SOL. I'd say that if you're not selected anywhere, apply again next time you're able to. You may find you're awarded additional persistency points for re-applying... Even if they don't, the applicant pool will be different the next time you apply so your score, even if unchanged, could very well be in the 19 top slots...

I'm sorry you didn't get in. If you are wanting to re-apply, I would suggest re-taking the TEAS and trying to get a higher score. A 79 would not get you into the program I am in. Since there were only 19 seats open, there is a good chance that the other applicants had 4.0's and high TEAS scores. I would try to get a higher TEAS score. Good Luck!

I don't know you intended school's point system, so I can't comment too much. Do you know what all they take into consideration?

At my school they also use a point system. They don't use the gpa for acceptance, they only look at it for the points. They look at the classes that will get us the points needed. The total max points we can get is 13. For example, If I have a gpa of 3.6 with a max points of 12 and someone else has a gpa of 4.0 with a max points of 11 then they would take me over them. And if someone else has max points of 13 with a gps of 2.5 (which is minimum for the program), then they would choose them over me. We get our points for having completed ALL the pre-reqs needed to apply. You might want to check and see if there is something that you didn't complete pertaining to the points.

2 pts for having a gpa of 3.5 or higher

2 pts for making an "A" in A&P I on your frist attempt

1 pt for A&P II

1 pt for having a gpa of 2.5-3.4

1 pt for doing pre-reqs at their school

1 pt for any honors class

1 pt for fine arts or a foreign language

1 pt for micro bio

1 pt for psyc I

1 pt for psyc II

1 pt for english "for a max total of 13 points"
