What do you guys think?

Hey everyone! As some of you know, I work Aug-June at a vocational high school here in Michigan. The job is easy! I work primarily training students in CNA skills and other entry level skills. It's awesome pay and hours - except for the fact I don't get paid on summer/spring/Christmas break because I am hourly.. The flip side of that is if any of you know about Michigan school benefits........well, they're the best to be had (free health insurance, paid pension etc)! And let me tell you, a snow day when you're 28, is still as exciting as it was when you were a kid.

However, a good portion of the people I work with drive me crazy (lead instructors) and I feel that I've outgrown the position. It's very repetitive and sometimes the teenagers, are well, teenagers. I'm also worried because I've lost a lot of my clinical skills. Today I interviewed for a homecare position that is great pay/hours. It is a resource/per diem position so my hours wouldn't be guaranteed (they told me there is lots of opportunities for hours). It would allow for me to work only 3-4 days a week, plus get a lot of clinical experience (help prepare for CPNE). They're skeptical to bring me on board because of my work with the school and know that I may leave to go back in a few weeks. My original thought was that I could try and do both, but both jobs are M-Fri day shift hours and they want me to be able to pick up at least one shift a month.

Help my indecisive personality out, and let me know what you all think! :banghead:

This isn't the first time you've said the school position drives you nuts ... I think you're right -- you've outgrown it. I'd take the new position -- go for it! :)

I know it's difficult to make a huge change like that ... I left my cushy graphic design job to go work in an ER at 50% of the pay, and I've never regretted it for one second.

It's a tough decision, going from comfy to possibly bumpy....I would go with the challenge. CPNE is going to be a challenge to us all, we are all going to be out of our comfort zones this job change would be a good place to start.:yeah::yeah:....:D

I think I'm ready to make the change.. It's the no guarantee of hours that worries me (and my husband)! I couldn't sleep all last night! I was also worried about driving to peoples houses in the middle of a blizzard....the things that keep me up at night!

Right after I posted yesterday the company called me and left me a message saying "we'd love to have you come aboard, but we're worried you won't be able to commit to 2 shifts a month if you go back to your other job."

I'm trying to think of other questions I need to ask before I call them back. Thanks for responding! I get so uneasy about stuff!

I can see where the no guarantee of hours would be daunting, but I'm sure they'll have shifts for you ... they wouldn't be bringing you on if they had people on the bench, so to speak, right?

Ugh! I am so frustrated. I just spoke with the company again and they said they wouldn't be able to even give me a schedule ahead of time. I wouldn't even know if I'd be working until the day of!

How frustrating!!

Now that sounds a little sketchy ... I'm sure you'd like to be able to plan your days on/off a little better than that! :(

Yeah....that's what I thought! Yesterday they made everything sound wonderful. Glad I thought to ask the question. They told me with "resource" positions you typically don't get to know when you work.
