Rates are going to vary by region and employers within that region. One employer may pay $25 (for example) an hour for a certain type of case, where another agency will pay $17.50 an hour for the same type of case, simply because they get nurses to work for that kind of pay. You would need to get truthful rates from different people employed in this type of nursing, and keep in mind that some agencies will pay one nurse $17, while paying another nurse $15, for the same case, as long as the nurses don't compare pay and the person getting the lower pay does not speak up for her/himself. Try calling the different agencies and ask them outright, without identifying yourself. If they try to give you the runaround over the phone, keep in mind that this is the type of agency that will give you the same runaround when you are their employee.

I was looking forward to an interview I have at a local branch of a private duty nursing agency. However, someone told me the pay was only $31/hr... and I was talking to another nurse who works for an agency closer to Boston and gets paid about $41/hr...
What are some good paying private duty nursing companies in Mass (esp. Central Ma?) What should I expect to be making for this type of job, per diem, in Mass.?
